I just love Dapper Day! For those that aren’t familiar, Dapper Day is a biannual event at three of the Disney Parks (California, Florida and Paris!) where guests dress up in their most dapper attire. You can read more about the event at the official Dapper Day website here. Unfortunately we were not able to make this year’s event on the actual day it happened *cue the sad violins*. But we made the best of it and ate delicious brunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe and took a few photos with some friends instead! This spring I chose to channel my inner 60’s princess by sewing up View B of Simplicity 1609 in this mod floral princess fabric. I must say, I’m quite pleased with the result!
PATTERN INFORMATION AND SEWING MODIFICATIONS
PATTERN: Simplicity 1609, View B
FABRIC: 100% Cotton Disney Princess Fabric from Joann. (This specific fabric is over two years old, but I linked all of the Disney Princess fabric currently available online from Joann above.)
MODIFICATIONS: This pattern is a fast and fun make and I’d definitely recommend it to beginners. I guess that’s why they call Simplicity 1609 a “Jiffy” make. I pretty much made the pattern as is. The only modification was shortening the hem by about 3 inches and then sewing a blind hem. This silhouette is very fitted (at least it was for me) so if you want more wiggle room, I’d suggest sizing up.
EARRINGS: Vintage, similar pair here.
DRESS: Made By Me!
SHOES: Theses are a DIY combo of cream flats and then patent bows from a different worn out pair, so these are definitely not available anywhere but here’s a similar pair that you could add a bow to!
Have you been to Dapper Day before? I’m already planning my next outfit (or two!) for the fall. Leave a comment and let me know. P.S. Make sure to check out my other sewing projects here!
