Here I am again blogging about a project I finished and took photos of over 3 months ago! It’s far too warm to wear this sherpa jacket now but I can’t wait to bust this baby out come November/December. I actually got the idea to use a modified McCalls 8011 with sherpa from Kyra Prosser on Instagram (peep her gorgeous version here) and added my own Disney twist.
As far as sherpa fabric goes, this one doesn’t shed much or come off in clumps as you’re cutting. I still had a little bit of trouble sewing even this simplified pattern mainly because I’ve never worked with fabric this thick before. I’ll probably add a lining before I wear this again for ease of wear and no little black puffs of fabric coming off inside. I’d still recommend the fabric though!
MCCALLS 8011 PATTERN INFORMATION AND SEWING MODIFICATIONS
PATTERN: McCalls 8011, View C (with modifications – see below!) – you can buy it here.
FABRIC: Black Sherpa Faux Fur (available here) / Mickey Mouse cotton fabric (old)
BUTTONS: 1″ Black Buttons (available here)
MODIFICATIONS: I omitted the cuffs and waistband and didn’t do any of the top stitching (too much for the sherpa fabric). I used black blanket binding to finish the sleeves and hem which gave the jacket a nice feel on the inside. For the collar I added about 2.5 inches of length to the pattern piece to get the oversized collar look. You might notice I also haven’t added the button holes yet. I was undecided about the thread color so I left them off for the time being!
JACKET: Made By Me!
JEANS: Madewell (old)
